Kanhaiya Kumar lands in City amidst HCU tension

Jawaharlal Nehru Univbersity students union president Kanhaiya Kumar was received at Shamshabad airport by CPI leaders K. Narayana and Chada Venkat Reddy on Wednesday morning. Kanhaiya was given a grand welcome at the airport, where youth in hundreds participated. Talking to newsmen at the airport, the JNU leader said he had come to Hyderabad to show solidarity to the mother and brother of Rohith Vemula, HCU research scholar who had committed suicide. Kanhaiya said he and the students would not halt their agitation till an act was passed by parliament in the name of Rohith Vemula. He was going to the Hyderabad Central University to demand the safeguarding the secular credentials of the universities. Going by the recent events in the two Central universities, the JNU and the HCU, the students had been championing the cause of the condemned convicts, Afzal Guru (Parliament attack case) and Yakub Memon (Bombay blasts mastermind, till then consdiered the greatest terrorist attack in the world). The latest tension in the HCU was caused by the resumption of duties on Tuesday by Vice-Chancellor Apparao after a two-month leave, when the students greeted him with large-scale violence.
