India contributes to Advancing Asia, says PM

India is giving its mite to `Advancing Asia' which is the ray of hope for the entire world, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Saturday. Addressing `Advancing Asia' conference, the Prime Minister dispelled the myth that democracy and rapid economic growth could not go hand in hand. He said India had demonstrated that it was possible to achieve political stability and also derive economic growth. He said India was distinct in that she had achieved economic growth without distrurbing others. Obliquely hinting at some of the Asian Tigers, he said India had not tried to gain at the expense of others. Corruption and influencing the decisions of banks were now behind, he added. Startups are booming owing to a series of steps taken by the govenrment. The investment in the rural and agriculture sector had been increased to bridge the rural-urban gap. `We aim at doubling farmers' income,' he added. Along with the Prime Minister, International Monetary Fund managing director Christine Lagard also addressed the conference, showering praises on Indian economy.
