Anand Sharma quits RS seat, to contest from HP

The pivot of the Congress and its deputy leader in the Rajya Sabha, Anand Sharma, on Monday resigned from the Upper house. Sources said Sharma, who represented Rajasthan in the Upper house, had resigned after he was nominated by the Congress to contest the Rajya Sabha poll from his home state of Himachal. The Congress leader would file his nomination for the Upper House from Himachal Pradesh soon. Anand Sharma has been one of the leaders who had been giving tough time to the BJP-led NDA alliance in the Rajya Sabha, where owing to the opposition majority no bill would pass the House without much scrutiny. Many bills have been diverted to the House committee to clear. The Goods and Services Tax Bill is the chief among the bills waiting to be passed.
