EC issues notification for polls in five States
The Election Commission notification announcing elections in five States of Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry, West Bengal, Kerala and Assam has been issued. The Election Code comes into immediate effect in these five States. Announcing the elections on Friday, Chief Election Commissioner Nazeem Zaidi said in all 824 assembly constituencies in the five States would go to polls. These include 126 in Assam, Tamil Nadu 234, West Bengal 294, Pondicherry 30 and Kerala 140. In all, some 170 million people would exercise their franchise. The BJP is not in power in any of these States.
