Umar Khalid, Anirban demand JNU biryani in Tihar
The hijinks of Jawaharlal Nehru Universityy students have now spread to the Tihar jail, with the students being lodged there. Like they say vasanas, the students lodged there still demand the cuisine that they have been enjoying on the JNU campus. The JNU students have made quite a big list of demands that they want to be met in the Tihar jail, too. The Students, Umar Khalid and Anirban Bhattacharya, have demanded that they want home food, as they are unhappy with the jail food. They wanted `biryani' made in JNU hostels and cigarettes, too. The jailers told them that they cannot have home food in the jail. But the jailer had to go out and get biryani in the nearest available hotel top satisfy the students. The jailer did not say whether they supplied cigarettes. Khalid made the special demand that he was a chain smoker and cannot do withhout fags. The students further demanded that they be lodged in the same cell as the JNU students union pressident, Kanhaiya Kumar. Jail food and lack of any facility is only for the lesser mortals of common criminals. But then the students are JNU research scholars and constitute the intelligentsia of a different narrative. Their narrative is sedition and treason. So they need the food that goes with that narrative. JNU biryani goes well with the narrative. So their demand for JNU biryani. The police did not heed the students demands other than biryani. Did khalid ever have Hyderabadi biryani? He will hopefully tell us, but not over seditious talk.
