Manjunatha Committee urged to speed up report

The Manjunatha Committee that is going into matter of inclusion of the Kapus without disturbing the existing Backward Classes is being asked to speed up its report submission owing to the current agitation by the Kapus. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu is expected to appeal to Manjunatha in this regard at their special meeting later on Thursday. The meeting is also expected to take measures to fill up the three member's vacancies in the committee. The Chief Minsiter's meeting with Manjunatha is expected to clear all pending issues to speed up the committee report. It is also expected to expedite a notification regarding the measures that have been taken. The existing Backward Classes, on the other hand, have threatened to protest if the Kapus were included among the Backward Classes. Former Chief Minister Damodaram Sanjiviah, a Dalit leader, had blocked the inclusion of the Kapus in the Backward Classes since many of the Kapus were in leading positions and in fact masters of the Dalits and other weaker sections. Another former Chief Minister Vijayabhaskara Reddy had, however, agreed to the inclusion of the Kapus among the Backward Classes to reap benefits in the elections.
