Governor summons DGP, City police chief

Governor ESL Narasimhan has directed the Director-General of Police, Hyderabad, and the Police Commissioner of Hyderabad to meet him on Thursday afternoon to review the electoral violence in Old City on Tuesday. On Wenesday, Congress, BJP and TDP leaders had met him and demanded that the Governor be authorized to take over law and order in Hyderabad in terms of the Section 8 of the AP Reorganization Act following the failure of law and order on GHMC polling day on February 2. In one particular incident, PCC chief Uttam Kumar Reddy and former Minister Shabbir Ali were attacked by AIMIM men at Puranapul, injuring Shabbir Ali in the eye. Shabbir Ali had in fact written to the Intelligence Wing of the police stating that the gunman provided to him was a mute spectator when the MIM men attacked him. So his security should be upgraded. The police have taken some people into custody in connection with the incidents in Old City.
