GHMC poll replete with tough challenges
Election campaigning is increasingly coming to be one of challenges and counter-challenges rather than promises about developments.
Telangana IT Minister K. Taraka Ramarao has started off this round of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Elections by asking the opposition leaders to resign if his Telangana Rashtra Samiti were to win the GHMC elections and appoint its Mayor.
The irrepressible Revant Reddy, TDP MLA, is not one to let go of the offer. He counter challenged that if the ruling TRS would get 100 seats as challenged by KTR, he would be prepared not only to quit as an MLA but also to heed any other condition to be put by KTR.
Revant was prepared to undergo any punishment, whatever KTR might dictate from his comfortable seat as IT, Panchayatraj Minister.
The TDP leader was also prepared to go out of Telangana. He was one of the leading lights of the Telangana movement.
At the same time, the TDP leader wondered whether KTR would stand by his word that if the ruling TRS were to get even one seat less than the 100 target, would he quit as the Minister?
Revant and KTR's challenge and counter-challenge are doing the rounds on TV channels.
Revant Reddy has been a bugbear for the ruling TRS in the State Assembly and outside. The TRS might go all out at least to keep Revant out.
