Eve-teasing boys will be sweepers, not boys!
Four young eve-teasers have been made to sweep the streets of Thane. Have they been enamoured by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Swach Bharat Programme?
No, the four youths have been sentenced by the the Bombay High Court to do so as they have been convicted in the eve-teasing case. They also beat up the good samaritan who intervened to save the girl in distress.
The boys, Ankit, Suhas, Milind and Amit, will be sweeping Thane's streets for 6 months. Additionally, they will have to make a donation of Rs.5,000 each to the Tata Memorial Cancer Hospital.
The youths argued that they have already settled the matter with the girl whom they had teased. They wanted the case struck down.
The Judges said nothing doing. The punishment is for their not repeating the mistake. By doing social work, they will be doing some useful work.
The Court judgement is unique unlike some lawmakers who say boys will be boys. Samajwadi Party leader Mulayam Singh, former UP Chief Minister, had once dismissed a molestation charge against some youths as `boys will be boys'. So erring boys will be sweepers is better proposition.
