Karunanidhi singing praises of Ramanujacharya

Kalaignar K. Karunanidhi hereafter maybe referrred to as Iyengar. The dialogues that he had written for the Visistadvaita founder Ramanujacharya's biopic are so great that even the conservatives are getting glued to their TV sets. The Ramanujacharya life story has been made into a TV serial and telecast by Kalaignar TV, named after Karunanidhi and run by his family. The dialogues are so endearing that nobody would believe that a known atheist had penned them. Not only Karunanidhi but also the DMK leadership had believed in atheism. Karunanidhi would himself take potshots at Hindu Gods. As he is ageing, Kalaignar Karunanidhi started wearing a yellow upper cloth, which he would not call Pitambar that has religious overtones. But the dialogues for the film on Ramanujacharya, considered DMK's nemesis, give the lie to atheistic authorship. As it happens in golden years, is Kalaignar Karunanidhi coming back to agnosticism, if not theism, going by the fact that Ramanujacharya is an exponent of Qualified Monism at its best? The people of Andhra would soon be seeing the Ramanujacharya TV serial in Telugu following discussions between Venkateswara channel and Kalaignar TV officials for a Telugu version of the TV serial. Karunanidhi is stated to be agreeable to its dubbing. Since 1967, when the DMK came into existence, there has been a hint about anti-aryanism and anti-brahmanism in the State's policies. Has the policy come full circle, even as the State has built a personality cult around Amma Jayalalithaa, who is an Iyengar Brahmin? The coming days wll surely witness a debate on the Kalaignar's change of world view.
