NSA Chief spent 7 years in Pak as Indian spy
National Security Adviser Ajit Doval is by far the greatest Indian spy who had spent 7 years in Lahore as Muslim doing the duty for his country.
There have been accounts by others about Ajit's exploits on the spying front. But yesterday he himself recounted his 7 years life as a Muslim in Lahore at much risk to his life addressing a Delhi audience. He had elicited many top secrets of the reckless neighbour. The audience were obviously spell bound by the account of the Indian James Bond.
The Kerala cadre Ajit was handpicked by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the top NSA position as the BJP-led government came to power.
Ajit's external exploits include the snaring of gangster Chota Rajan on foreign soil. Indeed he had almost trapped the elusive ganglord Dawood Ibrahim also, but for the quisling of a policeman in the payroll of that gangster in Bombay.
Ajit was also stated to have carried out back channel diplomacy with his Pakistani counterparts, paving the way for a recent trip by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.
He retired as Intelligence Bureau chief in 2005. It may be noted that AP-Telangana Governor ESL Narasimhan had succeeded Ajit Doval as IB Chief, and both are stated to be great friends.
