Even Trimurthis can't handle GST passage: Anand Sharma

Even if the Trimurthis -- Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwara -- were to come down to pursue the Goods and Services Tax Bill, it would not pass the Rajya Sabha, Congress leader Anand Sharma asserted on Sunday. The Bill was sought to be made into law effective from April 1 next, but that was impossible, he added while speaking at FICCI annual general body meeting. Sharma felt even if the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition were to come to an agreement on the Bill, it would not pass muster. This was because there were three kinds of GSTs -- State GSTs, Central GST, and IGST (Inter-State GST). There was a need for clarity on the matter. He reminded that the GST Bill had not been endorsed by the various State governments. The Centre could neither go ahead with the Bill in a one-sided manner, he added.
