Vijayawada CP cancels leave, out to suspend 6 CIs

In a dramatic turn in the ongoing Call Money racket probe, Commissioner of Police Gautam Sawang has cancelled his leave and spearheaded the investigation by marking six Circle Inspectors for suspension for failure to respond to victims' grievances. The investigation took a turn for the better on account of two factors. First, the State Assembly session is going to ensue shortly, wherein the opposition is bound to rise the matter and allege political and other pressure as hampering the probe. Second, the very fact that the Commissioner of Police is going on leave amid an unprecedented situation strengthened fears of political pressure. The administration seems to have chosen the lesser evil of acting against the failure of the law-enforcing authorities. The police have reportedly failed to register cases against the criminals who have had a field day, exploiting the people, particularly women. The police are already agog over the turn of events and find the sword of Damocles hanging on many heads. Earlier, in the morning, the Police Commissioner held a press conference wherein he had said that while he was going on leave, the in-charge Police Officer was competent and that he was more able because he was former Police Commissioner. The administration had however got wiser to the racket at least after Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu promising to put down the Call Money racket with an iron hand.
