Babu allays KCR's fears in case of floods in Amaravati region
Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, who personally extended an invitation to his AP counterpart Chandrababu Naidu to visit Medak, had expressed on Monday his concern over possible inundation in the Amaravati region in case of floods in the Krishna river. While flying in to Vijayawada to meet Chandrababu, KCR had a look over the Amaravati region and saw the river was full and seemingly threatening. So when they met, KCR posed the question, "Brother, in case of Krishna floods, won't the capital region of Amaravati face heavy inundation?"
A smiling Chandrababu allayed any such fears explaining, "When you see the river from above, the river appears full. This does not mean the water level has reached the danger mark. A minimum water level has to be maintained in the river for the smooth running of the Vijayawada Thermal Power Station (VTPS). This minimum water level makes it appear as if the river is full."
Chandrababu added that the proposed capital region was being planned to safeguard it against a threat of flooding. The average flood levels in the past century have been taken into account, and an additional water flow of 50% consideration has been given to the highest flood level, to safeguard the capital region against breaches.
This explanation satisfied KCR.
The Telangana Chief Minister's helicopter had landed near Chandrababu's temporary residence by the river bank. This may have heightened KCR's concerns.
