Hours-old baby girl charred to death in ambulance explosion in Thane

Hyderabad, Dec 11: Following the explosion in the CNG kit of an ambulance an hours-old baby girl was charred to death in the fire at a hospital in Thane city of Maharashtra, official sources said. According to reports a doctor and a nurse, who were with the child at the time of the incident, sustained serious burns. Thane civic body’s Regional Disaster Management Cell Chief Santosh Kadam said the ambulance was completely charred. According to Kadam, the baby girl was born on Thursday at Bhiwandi township. Following medical complications, the infant was brought to a private hospital in Thane the same day. On the advise of the doctors at the hospital an ambulance was called to shift the baby to a speciality care centre in Mumbai, Kadam explained. Just when the ambulance was to start, the accompanying doctor and the nurse saw a spark in the oxygen cylinder. They immediately jumped from the ambulance leaving the baby behind. Following which the CNG cylinder in the rear of the ambulance exploded causing fire. The child was charred to death on the spot.
