1,111 carat diamond mined in Botswana

Hyderabad, Nov 20: In a biggest find in more than a century, a 1,111 carat diamond was discovered at a mine in Botswana, said to be the biggest find in more than a century, according to the Lucara Diamond Corp. In 1905, the 3,106-carat Cullinan diamond was unearthed in South Africa. The Botswana diamond is second only to the Cullinan diamond. The diamond was found in Lucara's Karowe Mine and it is the world's second largest gem quality diamond ever recovered and largest ever to be recovered through a modern processing facility, the company said. Following the find, shares in Lucara shot up 34 percent. The diamond is yet to be evaluated.
