16 lakh trucks off road in AP, TS
Hyderabad, Oct 1: At least 16 lakh trucks have gone off the roads in Andhra Pradesh and Teangana states from 6 am today as part of a nationwide transport strike for the removal of toll barriers from the national highways for seamless movement of goods.
The strike was called by the All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) of New Delhi. AIMTC is also demanding the immediate stopping of TDS deduction from the transport sector.
Transporters in the two Telugu states are also demanding a single permit system between AP and TS. They are also expressing their resentment against the illegal collection of money at the border check posts on false charges of overloading of trucks.
Following the strike, the Road Transport Authority is making arrangements for transporting essential items like vegetables and fruits in state road transport buses.
