EC stops Aadhaar-voter ID linking

Hyderabad, Aug 14: The Supreme Court today directed the Election Commission of India to immediately stop Aadhaar-voter ID linking until further orders. Accordingly the EC directed all the State Chief Electoral Officers to immediately stop the process. The court recently opined that, Aadhaar is not mandatory to avail government schemes. It asked the government to link Aadhaar only to LPG (Gas) subsidy and PDS (Ration). The EC has started the process to weed out bogus voters. With this the Aadhaar-voter ID linking in Telangana was abruptly stopped. The EC in its orders clearly mentioned that officials should not to take Aadhaar number from voters.
