Two garbage bins to each house soon

Hyderabad, July 23: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) would give two garbage bins to each house soon. The Telangana State government on Wednesday sanctioned Rs 41.40 crore for procuring and distributing the garbage bins. This is done following the assurance of Chief Minister Chandrashekar Rao during a Swachh Hyderabad programme, on improving sanitation conditions in the city by providing two bins to each house, for segregating wet and dry waste. As per household survey, the officials estimated 40 lakh bins were needed for the city and the GHMC issued orders calling tenders for the purchase of garbage bins. National Green Tribunal and High Court have ordered to segregate dry and wet waste in 2000 which was not implemented anywhere. All people usually dump all the domestic refuse in a single bin and that was being collected and transported in the same manner. It will be difficult to segregate wet and dry rubbish later. Two bins of 12 litre capacity - green and blue colour - would be given to each family. Waste food and other bio-degradable items should be put in green colour bin while plastic and other recyclable wastage should be kept in blue colour bin. These garbage should put in separately in garbage collection vehicles.
