Chandrababu announces Rs 10 lakh ex-gratia to stampede victims
Rajahmundry, July 14: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu termed Rajahmundry stampede incident as unfortunate and announced Rs 10 lakh ex-gratia to the families of devotees who died in the incident.
He said that 27 people died in the stampede and regretted that the incident took place though precautionary measures were taken. The CM said that he would stay in Rajahmundry till the end of pushkaralu.
Chandrababu said that huge rush of devotees at the ghat led to incident. The CM directed the officials to provide better health care to the injured.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Chandrababu and enquired about the incident. Chandrababu said that an inquiry was ordered and action would be initiated on those responsible for the incident after the pushkaralu.
Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao and Leader of Opposition in Andhra Pradesh Assembly YS Jaganmohan Reddy expressed shock and grief over the incident and conveyed their condolences to the bereaved families.
Chandrababu broke into tears while visiting the injured at government hospital.
