Supreme Court strikes down Vem Narender Reddy’s petition
Hyderabad, July 6: The Supreme Court today struck down a petition filed by TDP MLC contestant Vem Narender Reddy’s seeking the declaration of vote casted by TRS MLA Chennamaneni Ramesh in MLC polls as invalid.
Vem Narender Reddy argued that Ramesh is not a citizen of India and hence his vote is invalid. Ramesh represents Vemulawada Assembly constituency in Karimnagar district. The Supreme Court opined that petitions should have been filed during the 2014 general elections.
The judgement assumed significance in wake of Cash-for-vote scam in which TDP MLA Revanth Reddy allegedly offered bribe to TRS MLA Stephenson. It may be noted that ACB questioned Narender Reddy in connection with the scam.
