Chandrababu Naidu Criticises Jagan Mohan Reddy’s “Mental Instability” on Capital Issue
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Friday formally laid the foundation for the much-awaited JSW Rayalaseema Steel Plant and strongly criticised YSRCP chief and former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy over his shifting stand on the state capital.

Addressing a public meeting after inaugurating the steel plant works, Naidu said it was an example of “mental instability in politics” that Jagan first accepted Amaravati as the capital, later announced three capitals after coming to power, and has now been speaking about Vijayawada and “Mavigan”. He described Jagan’s approach to the sensitive capital issue — which is linked to the state’s future and people’s self-respect — as highly irresponsible.

“We practice politics with credibility. We stand by our word and will lead the state on the path of development,” Naidu asserted.Steel Plant Details

The ₹36,700 crore project is being set up by JSW Group in Jammalamadugu. In the first phase, ₹4,500 crore will be invested in the steel plant and ₹11,850 crore in the second phase. Additionally, ₹20,350 crore will be invested in solar power to make it a fully green energy-based facility. The plant is expected to produce 2 million tonnes of steel in two phases and will be the country’s first fully “Green Steel” plant powered by renewable energy. The state government has allotted 1,100 acres of land, 2 TMC of water from Gandikota reservoir, and is providing road and rail connectivity.

Speaking on the occasion, Chandrababu Naidu said the previous government had conducted “fraudulent” foundation stone-laying ceremonies for the same project in 2019 and 2023 without moving even a handful of soil. “Today is July 3. Write down this date. We will complete the plant construction in exactly 24 months — by July 3, 2026 — and dedicate it to the nation,” he declared.

Naidu reiterated that he would transform Rayalaseema from “Raalla Seema” (land of stones) into “Ratnala Seema” (land of diamonds). He said the region would become a major steel hub alongside Visakhapatnam and would also see growth in automobiles, electronics, space technology, green energy, and gold mining.

The Chief Minister also announced that a ₹1 lakh crore Global Horticulture Hub would be launched in Madanapalle by August 15. He emphasised the government’s ‘One Family, One Entrepreneur’ initiative to train and support youth and farmers to become entrepreneurs.JSW Group Chairman Sajjan Jindal was present at the event. Naidu revealed that he had requested Jindal to make the Rayalaseema unit larger than the company’s Ballari plant.

Strong Stance on Law and Order

Naidu stressed that peace and security are essential to attract investments. He alleged that ganja, blade culture, and rowdyism had increased in the last five years, with attacks on police. He warned that anyone who harms women would face strict action. Referring to the Viveka murder case, he said politics based on violence and crime would not benefit the people and that his government would put an end to such practices. The Chief Minister expressed confidence that industrialisation in Rayalaseema would now gain unstoppable momentum and vowed to develop the region into one of the leading industrial hubs in the country.
