TN police strip youth for over-speeding

Chennai, June 17: In order to bring down road accidents, Tamil Nadu police has devised a new strategy. Recently, police spotted 14 youth who were over-speeding on bikes at Mahabalipuram. The police stopped the youth, stripped them to their underwear and detained them for 9 hours. Besides this, a fine of Rs 1,200 each was imposed on the youth. Their high-end bikes were kept at the police station for a day. Though human rights activists protested over the incident, police supported their act by saying that this punishment will deter people from violating traffic rules. The draft Road Safety Bill mandates the police to publish the photos and details of traffic violators in newspapers.
