102-year-old woman wins panchayat polls

Banglore: A 102-year-old woman defied popular perceptions, contested and won in panchayat elections. The woman contested from Doddalathuru in Kollegal taluk in Karnataka and won with a majority of 136 votes. Gowthamamma has 50 grand children and great-grand children. The grandma reiterated that she would make every effort to develop the village. She promised better roads, drinking water and other facilities to the villagers during her election campaign.
