National Green Tribunal issues notices to AP Govt on capital city in green belt

New Delhi, June 5 ,2015: The National Green Tribunal today issued notices to the AP Government on a petition filed by some individuals opposing the capital city construction in the green belt area in Guntur district. The notices were ordered by Justice Swatanter Kumar, Chairperson of the tribunal after hearing arguments on behalf of the petitioners. The petitioners, led by Tirumal Prasad Patil and others, submitted that construction of the capital city at the Tullur area in Guntur district will destroy the green belt consisting of the multiple crop yielding agricultural lands. The petitioners have also argued that the Krishna river bed will face a threat to its existence if concrete jungle comes up in the area. The tribunal has posted further hearing on the issue for July 27.
