CM Chandrababu Approves ‘AP FIRST’ Research Centre in Tirupati to Boost Innovation
Amaravati: In a significant move to align the state’s workforce with future industrial demands, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has approved the establishment of a major research facility in Tirupati, named AP Futuristic Innovation and Research in Science and Technology (AP FIRST).
During a review meeting with advisors from the aerospace, defence, and IT sectors, the Chief Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to shaping the younger generation for emerging global opportunities. AP FIRST will be established through a strategic collaboration between two premier national institutions—IIT Tirupati and IISER Tirupati. The Chief Minister directed officials to consult with the Central Government to ensure the institution is developed into a prestigious hub for innovation.
The centre will focus on critical future sectors including aerospace, space technology, artificial intelligence, cyber security, quantum technology, and green energy. Naidu stressed that the facility must coordinate with universities to update academic curricula, ensuring students are equipped with skills relevant to rapid technological advancements.
“It is the responsibility of the State government to provide skilled youth to the companies and industries that come forward,” Naidu stated, highlighting the need to bridge the gap between academic output and industry requirements.
Additionally, the Chief Minister called for strengthening the Drone Corporation. He directed officials to conduct in-depth studies on advanced concepts like drone taxis, drone ambulances, and a Drone Traffic Control Management System. He set a target to showcase the state's drone capabilities by the next International Drone Day.
The meeting was attended by Aerospace and Defence Advisor Satish Reddy, IT Advisor Amit Duggar, and senior academic directors.
