Amaravati, August 27: Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu reviewed key initiatives in the health sector, including reforms in health insurance, establishment of new medical colleges, free medical check-ups, and the promotion of Yoga and Naturopathy. At a meeting with senior health officials held at the Secretariat on Monday, he announced that generic medicines would be made available in every mandal to ease the financial burden on the poor.

The Chief Minister directed officials to immediately approve applications submitted to the BC Corporation for setting up Jan Aushadhi stores. He stated that this initiative would not only ensure affordable medicines for the poor but also create significant employment opportunities for BC youth.

Health insurance coverage of up to ₹25 lakhs under the NTR Health Service scheme was also discussed. Currently, the scheme covers 1.43 crore families, but the Chief Minister instructed officials to expand it to 1.63 crore families, which would benefit 5.02 crore people.

Emphasizing the need to strengthen medical infrastructure, Nara Chandrababu Naidu ordered the establishment of a 100-bed hospital in every constituency. He reviewed the progress of medical colleges under construction in Markapuram, Madanapalle, Pulivendula, and Adoni. Presently, the state has 2.24 beds per 1,000 population, while the World Health Organization recommends 3 beds per 1,000. Officials informed him that 12,756 additional beds need to be created, and the Chief Minister instructed a detailed study on the matter.

Highlighting the importance of preventive care, he stressed that people should be encouraged to adopt healthy lifestyles rather than seeking medical treatment only after falling ill. To promote Yoga and Naturopathy, he directed officials to establish a ‘Yoga Prachara Parishath’. Approval was granted to recruit 64 members across three regional study centers, and an action plan was ordered for setting up a Naturopathy University in Amaravati.

As part of a pilot project to create health profiles for all citizens, the Chief Minister ordered that free medical check-ups be conducted in Kuppam constituency within 45 days. He instructed that additional lab testing centers be set up in Kuppam, Shantipuram, Ramakuppam, and nearby areas, with increased deployment of sample collection teams.

To extend healthcare access to rural areas, Nara Chandrababu Naidu directed officials to provide mobile medical services in every village through ‘Aarogya Ratham’. He also instructed the introduction of uniforms for 108 ambulance staff. Reviewing preparations for the NTR Baby Kits scheme, he ordered officials to ensure its early rollout.

Meanwhile, representatives from Perkins India and the L.V. Prasad Eye Institute met the Chief Minister and presented their proposal to develop Amaravati as a ‘Model Inclusive City’. They explained that the initiative would align with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by promoting inclusive education, equal rights, and accessible infrastructure. Their plans include barrier-free public spaces, inclusive road design, universal access to public transport, digital smart infrastructure, and model school programs for equal learning opportunities, along with teacher training. Responding to this, the Chief Minister suggested preparing a comprehensive action plan.
