American man slaps lawsuit on TCS for bias

Washington, April 18: In a blow to Tata Consultancy Services Ltd, an American national is reported to have sued the IT major for allegedly showing bias in the process of recruitment and work allocation that favoures employees of Indian origin in the United States. The lawsuit is reported to have been filed few days back in the San Francisco division of the Northern District Court of California. The US national, identified as Steven Heldt, was a former employee of TCS. In the lawsuit, Steven Heldt accused TCS of discrimination. He said nearly 95 per cent of the IT major’s 14,000-odd US workforce comprised South Asian, primarily Indian, origin staff. He said TCS violated federal civil rights law and said it had an “intentional pattern and practice of employment discrimination against individuals who are not South Asian, including discrimination in hiring, placement, and termination decisions.” TCS is said to have terminated the services of Heldtin March 2014.
