Major fire breaks out in Hyd chemical factory
Hyderabad, April 12, 2015: A major fire broke out early this morning in Padmavati chemical factory at Shapoor in Jeedimetla area of Hyderabad.
With the day being Sunday, heavy loss of life was averted as workers were off duty.
Thick columns of smoke have billowed out to the skies from the fire that emanated from possible chemical reactors' blasts. Four to six fire extinguishing units are on job to put out the fire.
Even four hours after the major fire broke out and spread to the neighbouring factories and industrial units, the owners of the factory did not turn up at the spot.
The factory was kept locked for Sunday and dozens of fire extinguishing workers are trying their best to douse the fire.
A former corporator told reporters that illegal chemical mixing activity has been taking place in the premises. "No action has been initiated against the factory management despite several complaints," he said.
What is worrying is the firefighters are unable to put out the fire despite heavy rain lashing Hyderabad city.
