Former Minister Kakani Held in Quartz Mining Case, Court Appearance Today
In connection with an illegal quartz mining case, senior YSR Congress Party leader and former minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy was taken into custody by police in Bengaluru yesterday. He has since been transported to Nellore and is scheduled to be produced before the Venkatagiri court today.

According to sources, Kakani Govardhan Reddy is currently being held at the District Police Training Centre. Media access has been restricted, with police halting all vehicles at a distance of approximately one kilometre from the facility. The case under investigation involves allegations of illegal mining, unauthorized transport, and the use of explosives in violation of regulations. Police are also examining accusations of threats made against tribal communities who raised objections to the activities.

Kakani Govardhan Reddy has been listed as Accused No. 4 (A4) in the case registered at the Podalakur Police Station in Sri Potti Sriramulu Nellore district. The case includes several charges: illegal quartz excavation, transportation violations, and alleged intimidation of tribal complainants.

Previously, police had issued notices requesting Kakani Govardhan Reddy’s appearance for questioning. When he failed to comply, authorities initiated a search to locate and arrest him. He had reportedly made attempts to secure anticipatory bail, but both the High Court and Supreme Court denied relief. Following these setbacks, he is said to have evaded arrest by frequently relocating to undisclosed locations.
