Kohli Reclaims Orange Cap After Powering Past 500 Runs in IPL 2025
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) star batter Virat Kohli has etched another rare milestone in the annals of Indian Premier League (IPL) history. He became the first player ever to score 500 or more runs in eight different IPL seasons, achieving this landmark during Saturday’s match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
Kohli delivered a stellar performance in the closely contested match against CSK at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. He scored 62 runs off just 33 balls, surpassing the 500-run mark for the ongoing season. This blistering innings also helped him reclaim the Orange Cap, awarded to the leading run-scorer of the IPL 2025 season.
Currently, Kohli leads the scoring charts for IPL 2025. He has batted in 11 innings so far, accumulating 505 runs at an average of 63.13 and a strike rate of 143.46. Notably, his half-century against CSK marked his seventh fifty of the season, underscoring his consistent and outstanding form.
Previously, Kohli shared the record of scoring 500-plus runs in seven IPL seasons with Australian cricketer David Warner. With his latest achievement, Kohli has now surpassed Warner to hold the top spot alone. Other players on the list include KL Rahul with six such seasons, and Shikhar Dhawan with five.
Kohli first reached the 500-run milestone in a single season in 2011 and has showcased exceptional consistency ever since. His standout performance came during the 2016 season when he amassed a record-breaking 973 runs, including four centuries. He replicated the feat in the 2018, 2023, and 2024 seasons, and now again in IPL 2025, further cementing his legacy of longevity and hunger for runs.
