IPL 2025: Gujarat Titans Outclass Sunrisers to Crush Playoff Dreams

Sunrisers Hyderabad suffered a 38-run defeat at the hands of Gujarat Titans in a high-scoring Indian Premier League match, effectively ending their hopes of qualifying for the playoffs. Chasing a daunting target of 225 runs set by Gujarat, Sunrisers Hyderabad managed only 186 for 6 in their allotted 20 overs.

Abhishek Sharma displayed remarkable fighting spirit, scoring 74 off 41 balls, including four boundaries and six sixes. However, he lacked support from the other end, which led to Sunrisers falling short of the target. As a result of this loss, the team’s chances of making it to the playoffs are now nearly impossible.

Earlier, Gujarat Titans were asked to bat first after losing the toss. They posted a commanding total of 224 for 6 in 20 overs. Captain Shubman Gill led the charge with a stellar 76 off 38 balls, while Jos Buttler contributed 64 off 37 deliveries. Sai Sudharsan also made a valuable 48. Among Sunrisers bowlers, Jaydev Unadkat was the only one to make a notable impact, finishing with figures of 3 for 35.

In pursuit of the massive target, Sunrisers suffered an early setback with the dismissal of Travis Head for 20. Abhishek Sharma remained resolute and counter-attacked the Gujarat bowlers with a flurry of sixes. Despite his efforts, key batsmen such as Ishan Kishan (13) and Heinrich Klaasen (23) failed to deliver, increasing the pressure on Abhishek. Eventually, he too was dismissed at a crucial juncture, sealing Sunrisers’ defeat.

In the latter stages of the innings, Nitish Kumar Reddy (21 not out) and Pat Cummins (19 not out) attempted a late rescue but could not change the outcome. For Gujarat, Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj played pivotal roles with two wickets each. Ishant Sharma and Coetzee picked up a wicket apiece, contributing to their team's comprehensive victory.
