On Sunday, August 6, Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually initiated the redevelopment of 508 railway stations across India. This massive project, part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, is set to cost around $3 billion (Rs 24,470 crore). It's one of the most significant infrastructure projects undertaken by the government lately. PM Modi remarked, "As India journeys towards its golden age, there's newfound energy, inspiration, and commitment. Today marks a fresh chapter for Indian Railways." The broader vision is to transform approximately 1300 key railway stations into modern Amrit Bharat Railway Stations. "Starting today, the first 508 of these stations will be undergoing this transformation," Modi confirmed. This two-year project, entirely financed by the central government, will revitalize stations across 27 states and Union Territories. The distribution includes 55 stations in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan, 49 in Bihar, 44 in Maharashtra, and numbers in the 20s and 30s across many other states, ensuring a widespread impact.
