The Royal British Legion intends to replace the plastic stem on Remembrance Day poppies with one made of a new biodegradable substance, making them more environmentally friendly. There is no higher sacrifice than that of those who give their lives for their country, the prime minister wrote in a tweet. Every year, the annual appeal raises almost £50 million to help The Royal British Legion support the armed services community.
