The Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla said on Thursday that no word had been "banned" in either house and that the list was simply a compilation of expressions that had previously been deleted from records. This statement came amid a significant backlash over an updated list of words deemed unfit for parliament that included fundamental terms like 'corrupt' and 'irresponsible.' There are no forbidden words. Members are allowed to voice their opinions. No one can take that privilege away, but it must be done in accordance with Parliamentary decorum, Birla told reporters. The Speaker made the point that it must be determined in what context such words are being used. The Opposition, on the other side, attacked the government, claiming that it had listed every word they had used to describe how the BJP was destroying India as being unparliamentary.
