On Thursday, Johnson will also address the nation. According to a close ally, Johnson had demonstrated in the previous 48 hours that he would fight to the bitter end, but now he has agreed to step aside. A new Conservative leader will be appointed in time for the party's annual conference, but he will serve as caretaker prime minister until October.
