According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), counterfeit notes of all denominations have surged in the fiscal year 2021-22. (FY22). According to a recent Central Bank study, among all notes that witnessed an upsurge in counterfeit notes, the Rs 500 was the hardest hit. In comparison to previous year, the RBI discovered 101.9 percent more bogus Rs 500 notes and a 54.16 percent increase in phoney Rs 2,000 notes. The counterfeit notes identified in the denominations of Rs 10, Rs 20, Rs 200, Rs 500 (new design), and Rs 2000 increased by 16.4 percent, 16.5 percent, 11.7 percent, 101.9 percent, and 54.6 percent, respectively, compared to the previous year, according to the RBI's report.
