In the House of Representatives, two members of Congress have sponsored legislation that would automatically allow H-4 visa holders the right to work in the United States. The law aims to alleviate the labour crisis that businesses in the United States are facing, as well as to enable immigrant families succeed. If passed, the bill will help thousands of migrants, especially Indians, and their partners. H-4 visas are granted to dependant spouses and children of H-1B, H-2A, H-2B, and H-3 visa holders travelling to the United States. The H-4 Work Authorization Act proposes to amend current legislation by granting spouses of H-1B visa holders the right to work immediately after acquiring their H-4 visa. Currently, H-4 visa holders must apply for and wait for work authorization before they can work, even if they are already in the United States and their spouse is employed here.
