Governor Tamilisai urges people to follow Covid-19 preventive norms

Puducherry, Feb 20: Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan, who is presently in Puducherry, where she has assumed the additional charge as the Lt Governor, urged the people to strictly adhere to the Covid-19 preventive measures.

She expressed concern over more than 30 people testing Covid-19 positive in a village called Rekurthy in Karimnagar district in Telangana.
 
More than 30 people tested positive after they attended a funeral in the village where they reportedly ignored the adherence to the preventive norms.

Citing the example of Rekurthy village, Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan called upon the people to strictly adhere to the preventive measures like maintaining social distance, wearing the mask, washing hands and sanitizing the places etc.,
 
“The vaccination is in progress and more than one crore frontline workers were given the vaccine in our country. It is not the time to be complacent about the prevention of Covid-19. Still, the prevention is the best method to contain its spread,” she added.

Referring to the progress in vaccination in our country, the Governor stated that our country was the second-fastest to administer the vaccine to more than one crore people and is next only to the USA.

“Many countries are looking at our country for the supply of vaccine and a couple of countries have already imported the vaccine from our country. Our vaccine development and supply programme truly reflects the spirit of Atma Nirbhar Bharat, as envisioned by our Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji,” she added.

Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan, in her capacity as the Lt Governor of Puducherry, visited the Karaikal district headquarters and reviewed the developmental and welfare activities of the district with the District Collector, police officers and other senior officials of the administration.

Visit to Anganwadi Centre:

She has also visited an Anganwadi centre and distributed gift boxes and fruits to the children. She spent a very good time with the toddlers and kids.

She enquired about the supply of nutritious food supplements to the children of the Anganwadi and emphasised the need to give them nutritious food at to the growing kids.

Hundreds of people gathered at the Anganwadi centre and jostled to felicitate the Lt Governor. They lined up to present the shawls and greet their own Lt Governor.

Inspects vaccination centre:

Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan has visited the vaccination centre and inspected the vaccination process at Karaikal.

She urged the health workers to shun the vaccine hesitancy and go for the vaccine to protect themselves, families, and their patients.

The vaccine is being given on a priority basis to the healthcare workers and other frontline warriors as a thanks giving gift in recognition of their services during the pandemic.

She also planted a sapling at the Ayushman Bharat primary health centre complex.

The Lt Governor highlighted the need to promote Karaikal as an important destination for temple tourism and nature tourism and improve the direct and indirect livelihoods of the people.

Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan, along with her husband and noted Nephrologist Dr P. Soundararajan visited the Thirunallar temple and Thirukadaiyur temple and had performed special puja.

Thousands of elated people lined up at every place during her visit to greet and felicitate Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan.
