In a recent address to the Sansad, Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi expressed the Congress party's support for the Women's Reservation Bill. She voiced her satisfaction with the Bill's passage but also voiced concerns regarding the timeline. Gandhi posed a crucial question, asking why Indian women have had to wait for their political responsibilities for the past 13 years, only to be told to wait a bit longer. She questioned the appropriateness of this extended delay and called for immediate action. The Indian National Congress (INC) demands the immediate implementation of the Women's Reservation Bill. Additionally, Gandhi emphasized the necessity of conducting a caste census and making provisions for the reservation of Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and Other Backward Class (OBC) women. These steps, she argued, are essential to ensure equal representation for all women in Indian politics.
