Chandrayaan-3's Pragyan rover has wrapped up its tasks and has been safely set to "sleep mode." The Alpha Particle X-ray Spectrometer (APXS) and Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscope (LIBS) instruments on Pragyan have been powered down, as per the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) update on September 2, 2023. Meanwhile, the Vikram lander is transmitting data back to Earth from its instruments. Despite this, the Pragyan rover's battery is fully charged, and its solar panel has been adjusted to catch sunlight during the upcoming lunar sunrise on September 22, 2023. Lunar days on the Moon are about 14 Earth days long, with Chandrayaan-3 having landed during the previous lunar sunrise on August 23. ISRO is maintaining the rover's receiver, hoping for a successful reawakening to conduct more experiments. In ISRO's words on X (formerly Twitter), "Otherwise, it will forever remain India's lunar representative."
