Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) announced the launch of JioAirFiber on Ganesh Chaturthi, September 19. Chairman Mukesh Ambani revealed that JioAirFiber will utilize their extensive 5G network across India, eliminating the need for last-mile fibre connections. While optical fibre currently enables RIL to connect 15,000 locations daily, JioAirFiber will boost this to 150,000 connections daily—a tenfold increase. Over the next three years, this technology aims to reach over 200 million high-revenue homes and buildings. Emphasizing the potential of fixed-mobile convergence, Ambani noted it will promote increased broadband use in premium households, paving the way for Smart Home solutions. Jio's optical fibre network stretches 1.5 million km in India, closely accessing over 200 million places. However, Ambani acknowledged challenges in physical connectivity, which JioAirFiber addresses, providing broadband without the hassles of traditional fibre extensions.
