Union Minister Jitendra Singh announced on Saturday that India is preparing to send a female robot named "Vyommitra" to space. This launch is a part of the Gaganyaan mission, which is India's inaugural human space flight endeavor. The Gaganyaan project experienced delays due to the pandemic. "We aim to kick off the first experimental mission by early October. The focus is not just on sending astronauts to space, but also ensuring their safe return," Singh shared with NDTV. He added that the subsequent mission will include "Vyommitra," a robot designed to replicate human functions. Successful completion of these steps will pave the way for the final phase. ISRO has plans for two trial runs with the humanoid "Vyommitra" prior to the actual manned flight slated for 2024 or 2025. A successful human mission will position India alongside the U.S., Russia, and China, making it the fourth nation with human spaceflight capabilities.
