In India, one of the toughest and most dangerous jobs is cleaning manholes by hand. This work, known as manual scavenging, is still being done by people even though there are laws against it. The big problem is that there hasn't been a good way to do this job without people. Many folks get scared just hearing the word "manhole." Some people even cover their noses if they see one. But sanitation workers have to climb inside these dark, dirty places and clean them. Sometimes, bad gases come out when they're cleaning, and workers have gotten hurt. But now, there's some good news. Officials in Chandigarh Corporation have a new idea to keep workers safe. They've made a robot named 'Bandicoot.' This robot can clean manholes so people don't have to.
