Last Monday (July 17), paraglider pilot Chris Lammert arrived at work in Lohan, Ranau, expecting the usual enthusiastic young clients for tandem paragliding. Paragliding, an adventurous recreational activity and aerial sport, involves a pilot flying using a glider while sitting on a harness. Tandem paragliding, on the other hand, means the pilot carries a passenger. To his surprise, one of the clients turned out to be an 87-year-old woman from Rawang, Selangor, named Madam Thong. Lammert, attached to a paragliding company in the hilly Ranau district, was amazed by her spirit and determination. Madam Thong, in fact, had taken the initiative to try tandem paragliding to encourage her daughter, who is in her fifties, to conquer her fear and give it a try as well.
