The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) successfully seized 43 capsules of heroin worth Rs 5 crore from an African national who attempted to smuggle the contraband by swallowing it, according to an official statement on Friday. Acting on specific information, the Mumbai zonal unit of the DRI intercepted a Benin national at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport on June 21. During the search, officials grew suspicious that the accused was attempting to smuggle drugs by ingesting them, as per the official. To confirm their suspicions, a medical examination was conducted, revealing that the accused had swallowed 43 capsules, believed to contain a narcotic substance.
