A heartwarming video has surfaced, showcasing a poignant moment as Vanilla the chimpanzee experiences the open sky for the first time upon her arrival at the Save the Chimps sanctuary in Fort Pierce, Florida. Previously confined to a small 5-foot-square cage, Vanilla's transition to the sanctuary in 2022 marked a significant turning point in her life. The sanctuary staff captured the awe-inspiring scene as Vanilla marveled at the sky and embarked on her exploration of the sanctuary's sunlit surroundings. Vanilla's early years were spent in a biomedical research laboratory that closed its doors in 1997. She lived in a cage suspended from the ground, resembling bird cages.
