The Telangana cabinet, headed by Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao, convened at the new Secretariat and made a significant announcement on Thursday. They declared the repeal of GO No. 111, which was originally issued in 1996 to curb excessive industrialization, heavy construction activities, and pollution in 84 villages, specifically targeting the Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar reservoirs. During a media briefing, Finance Minister T Harish Rao provided details on the cabinet meeting. He stated that the regulations currently applicable to lands within the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits would now extend to the 84 villages situated in the revenue mandals of Shamshabad, Rajendranagar, Moinabad, Chevella, and Shabad. These villages fall within the 10-kilometer catchment area of Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar. The decision to repeal GO No. 111 was motivated by the fact that both Hyderabad city and the villages within the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) limits no longer solely rely on these reservoirs for water supply.
