New Delh: The Supreme Court has upheld the Tamil Nadu law allowing the bull-taming sport 'jallikattu' and similar laws enacted by the Maharashtra and Karnataka governments. The five-judge constitution bench, led by Justice K.M. Joseph, expressed its decision not to interfere with the legislature's view that jallikattu is an integral part of the state's cultural heritage. The apex court emphasized that the legislature is best positioned to determine such matters. The bench, satisfied with the evidence of jallikattu's long-standing practice in Tamil Nadu, highlighted that the judiciary cannot delve into the question of whether it is an integral part of Tamil culture.
