On February 20th, the Mumbai Airport Customs and Central Industrial Security Force jointly seized foreign currency worth USD 10 lakh, which is equivalent to over Rs 8.36 crore. The seizure, which was made after acting on a tip-off, came to light on Thursday. According to officials, an Indian-origin-US national was intercepted at Mumbai airport and found to be carrying the large sum of money in a handbag. The identity of the accused has not been revealed yet. A video of custom officials taking out the currency notes from the luggage bags has gone viral on social media. The officials stated that the accused was attempting to smuggle the money out of the country. Further investigations are underway.
